Climate Action Week

Understanding the urgency of climate change and taking action - we make it easy!

At all schools. For all students. Nationwide.

In one of more days from September the 20th to the 24th 2021

Climate Action Week offers all students in a school the opportunity to understand the significance of the climate crisis in an age-appropriate way. Teachers can easily incorporate a wide range of multimedia activities into their lessons without any additional effort.

We put great emphasis on scientifically and pedagogically high-quality materials for the Climate Action Week. For this reason, all materials are checked once again by a team of scientists and educators. We are supported in this by the following institutions:

The Climate Action Week is based on the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). "It empowers learners of all ages with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to address the interconnected global challenges we are facing, including climate change ..." — UNESCO Website on Education for Sustainable Development.

Education for Sustainable Development is recognized as an integral element of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education and a key enabler of all other SDGs, including climate action (SDG 13). The interlinked SDGs of the United Nations provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.

SDG 1 SDG 2 SDG 3 SDG 4 SDG 5 SDG 6 SDG 7 SDG 8 SDG 9 SDG 10 SDG 11 SDG 12 SDG 13 SDG 14 SDG 15 SDG 16 SDG 17

As a class - or with the whole school. On one day - or on several. In presence - or online.

All materials are freely accessible, interactive, participative, scientifically and pedagogically tested.

“With the Climate Action Week, we are making a strong start. Let's act NOW!”
Margret Rasfeld

It is high time that the climate crisis, in accordance with its existential importance, arrives centrally in our schools. It is a matter of knowledge and action, of courage, responsibility, participation, and spaces for self-efficacy and hope. The crisis does not wait for new curricula. It's up to us to decide. At the grassroots. RESPONSIBILITY means: finding answers to the challenges of the time. A group of committed people can change the world, in schools we can become hundreds of thousands. With the Climate Action Week, we are making a strong start. Let's act NOW!

“The Climate Action Week is a spark that lights the fire of climate protection in education!”
Felix Bucka

As an elementary school teacher, I am passionate about creating climate awareness in children from an early age so they understand the impact our actions have on our planet. I want children to be empowered to make the choices that will affect their future as well. It is not us who will feel the full impact of the climate catastrophe. It is our children who will have to deal with the shambles of our "ego party"! The Climate Action Week is a spark that lights the fire of climate protection in education!

“The Climate Action Week is helping us all learn a lesson that we should have learned long ago.”
Shary Reeves-Nyasani

The sight of a forest is like a visual breath. If we manage to live the symbiosis of man and nature authentically, it enables us to manage adequate living space in the long term. So if we want to continue to breathe with our eyes, we must learn to subject our thoughts and actions to the ecological laws of continuity. This applies in a very special way to the protection of biodiversity and the climate. The Climate Action Week is helping us all learn a lesson that we should have learned long ago.

“With the Climate Action Week many young people can be reached and motivated.”
Alexandra Struck

For us as youth, a central task in life is to find solutions to the climate crisis. In order for us to become more and more effective, we need to grow more and more. With the Climate Action Week, many young people can be reached and motivated to stand up together with heart and mind for a livable and climate-just world.

“Activities in the Climate Action Week mean commitment to social change and that NOW!”
Achim Beule

Just do it! In the context of the climate crisis, school is not only about knowledge, but also about opening up a space for action that enables our students to develop a sense of self-efficacy, freedom of choice and responsibility. Activities in the "Climate Action Week" mean commitment to social change and that NOW!

“Teachers have an incredibly important key position in saving the foundations of life for future generations.”
Cornelia & Prof. Volker Quaschning

The climate crisis is the greatest threat to the very people we love most: Our children. Educating them about the urgency of action is important to both of us, because the window of opportunity is only short to finally take decisive action. The paradox is: the solutions to stop the climate crisis and the money to do it are there, but change is hard. Children are still open to new things, love to try things out, and can thus bring enormous leverage to families. Teachers have an incredibly important key position in saving the foundations of life for future generations and should be given as much support as possible in doing so.

“It is long overdue that each and every one of us develops an understanding of how urgent the climate crisis has become”
Eva Müller

It is long overdue that each and every one of us develops an understanding of how urgent the climate crisis has become. Climate education should be an integral part of all schools! I therefore consider the Climate Action Week to be very important. We still have the opportunity to take our future into our own hands.

“The climate crisis is a medical emergency.”
Eckart von Hirschhausen

Why does a clinical thermometer end at 42 degrees? Because we can't stand any more. Mother Earth has a fever. The climate crisis is a medical emergency. Now we have to keep a cool head and act. No panic, but top priority is needed to secure our natural livelihoods for now and the future. Clean air, water without plastic, plants to eat and above all bearable outdoor temperatures. Children and young people have opened our eyes to the urgency of the crisis. Thank you! That's why, as a former pediatrician, I am very happy to support climate education in schools with my Healthy Earth-Healthy People Foundation. Because it is the adults who have the most to learn!

“Education plays a central role in solving the climate and environmental crisis ... get your grandchildren's school involved.”
Cordula Weimann

Only together can we make it! And education plays a central role in solving the climate and environmental crisis. Because we also lack the knowledge of what "risks and side effects" our behavior has on our environment. Nobody wants to destroy the earth consciously. Business, politics and the advertising industry have always shown us only the sunny side of consumption, travel and luxury. Now we realize that we are ultimately endangering the future of our children. We cannot leave the youth alone with this. Our children need us now. To all grandparents: out of love for your children and grandchildren: get your grandchildren's school involved - for their future and ours. Actions like the Climate Action Week are a key way out of the crisis.

“I welcome the Climate Action Week and encourage all schools to participate.”
Professor Dr. Mark Lawrence

Slowing climate change means an enormous effort and many social and economic transformations. But if we don't stop climate change, the losses and the necessary adaptation measures will be much greater worldwide. This is also true in Germany and especially affects young people and future generations. To support intergenerational, intercultural and international justice, I think it is very important to address these issues in schools. I welcome the Climate Action Week and encourage all schools to participate.

“The Action Week Climate offers climate education not only for the students, but also for the teachers!”
Christina Honig

We are the first generation to feel the consequences of the climate crisis and the last to stop it. Our climate crisis does not distinguish between old and young, with the responsibility for our planet we are all in the same boat. Therefore, the "Action Week Climate" offers climate education not only for the students, but also for the teachers! Together we create space to understand the triggers and connections of the climate crisis, to discuss our own fears, worries and hopes and to grow together. There is still a lot we can do - and must do!

“During the Climate Action Week, students and teachers can practice change together in an interdisciplinary and real-life way.”
Dr. Gregor Hagedorn

Our society will change rapidly and fundamentally - one way or another. We are left with the choice of whether we refuse to embrace change and allow ourselves to be rolled over, or whether we take the wheel firmly in our hands and shape our own future. The courage to change and the art of initiating change do not come by themselves, but must be practiced. During the Climate Action Week, students and teachers can practice change together in an interdisciplinary and real-life way.

“Climate Action Week is everywhere and every second, it starts with normal people like you and it starts now.”
Howey Ou

The climate and ecological crisis is simple. It is about rebellion or extinction. The current pandemic sounds an alarm to act now. It's time for us to face reality and turn our deepest love, grief and rage for earth and all lives to action. Everyone is an atom of change. Each decision we make now defines our future. Climate Action Week is everywhere and every second, it starts with normal people like you and it starts now.

Howey Ou

“I'm so happy that the Climate Action Week is taking place and wish that all school students get the chance to participate!”
Carlotta

Climate change will be a big part of our future. That is unfortunately clear. At the same time, it is clear that schools should prepare us for this future. But that's precisely what they're doing far too little at the moment. Personally, I have hardly covered any topics related to the climate at school. And that's exactly why I'm so happy that the Climate Action Week is taking place and wish that all school students get the chance to participate!

“The EU has recognized that the climate crisis is a reality. That is why, as a European Climate Pact Ambassador, I support the Climate Action Week.”
Frank Abschlag

The EU has recognized that the climate crisis is a reality and is determined to do something about it. That is why, as a European Climate Pact Ambassador, I support the Climate Action Week, because it is in line with the key objectives of the European Climate Pact: to acquire knowledge about climate change, to develop, discuss and implement solutions, and to maximize the impact of these solutions by networking with others. Schools and educational institutions have an important role to play in the necessary European transformation: it is here that visionary projects, experiments and innovative forms of collaboration can be developed and tested. This is the ideal space to quickly and decisively challenge our long-standing habits and assumptions, and to bring them to the breadth of society via families.

Frank Abschlag
